Vans iPhone App

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Yes,

It is true.  You can now pay $4.99 for Vans SK8 Pool Service on your iPhone.  “How is the game?”, you ask.  I don’t know.  I am not the kind of rube that would pay $5 for a game on my phone.  I am just the type of rube that has an iPhone.  Hypocritical, maybe.  But, for those of you who feel that gettin’ in on this IPO is a good thing.  Just check it out on the iTunes Store….and tell them that I sent you.logo

Active bankruptcy filing details March 24, 2009 02:50 PM

active ride shopUpdated 7:30 a.m. Wednesday with names of more skateboarders whose contracts are being rejected and a mention of an Active operating agreement with ESPN for an e-commerce partnership.

The filing tells how Active’s rapid expansion over the past few years required significantly more investment and financial resources - while revenues essentially stayed the same.

As result, Active is projected to record a $7.7 million loss for the fiscal year ending March 31. (Click here to read an interview with Active partner Shane Wallace about the bankruptcy filing and go-forward plan, which includes reorganizing and continuing to operate 21 stores).

Also of note is the list of Active’s 20 largest unsecured creditors, which reads like a Who’s Who of action sports brands. Active owes a total of $8.8 million to its 20 largest unsecured creditors.

Financials
According to the bankruptcy filing, Active’s revenues stayed approximately the same over the last few years while the number of stores essentially doubled in that same period.

Annual Revenues
3/31/07: $58.9 million
3/31/08: $61.8 million
3/31/09: $59.9 million (projected)

Annual net income (loss)
3/31/07: $368,356
3/31/08: ($2 million)
3/31/09: ($7.7 million) projected

The filing says, “These losses have been caused primarily by the Debtor’s rapid over-expansion and market saturation, during which time the company’s same store sales were decreasing substantially.”

Bankers
Active owes approximately $4.2 million in principal, exclusive of interest and other charges, to Merrill Lynch, which is continuing to work with the company during its bankruptcy reorganization.

Leases and contracts
The company is moving to reject eight leases for the stores it has already closed in Irvine, San Diego (three), Simi Valley, Westwood, Lake Elsinore and Mission Viejo.

The filing also says it will reject contracts with several skateboarders, including Andrew Reynolds, Kenny Anderson, Billy Marks, Erik Ellington, Daewong Song, Steve Berra, Eric Koston, Michael Capaldi, Braydon Szafranski and Jim Greco.

Volcom and Pearl Jam, Limited Edition

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

031609walls_rune800x600VOLCOM TO ISSUE LIMITED EDITION PEARL JAM T-SHIRT AND 7-INCH VINYL

Costa Mesa, CA, March 10, 2009 - To coincide with Pearl Jam’s previously announced reissue of their debut album, Ten, on March 24, 2009, Volcom will release a limited edition Pearl Jam/Volcom tee shirt and 7” record featuring smokin’ live versions of “Even Flow” and “Porch” on Volcom Entertainment.  Both tracks are extended live versions of the original studio recordings, stretching into the seven-minute range.  “Even Flow” was recorded in August 2005 at Adam’s Fieldhouse in Missoula, MT and “Porch” was recorded in July 2006 at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, OR.  Both the tee shirt and 7” record will be available at select Volcom retailers as well as online at www.volcoment.com <http://www.volcoment.com> .

With the relationship between Pearl Jam and Volcom dating back to the early-90’s, Volcom Chairman/CEO Richard Woolcott calls this collaboration “a special project for us that brings the relationship with Pearl jam full circle”. He also adds, “I can’t help but smile when thinking back on all the good times we shared together. Whether it was the “Day in the Dirt” weekends in Seattle or rocking to live shows in Hawaii, Pearl Jam has always been close to our hearts”.

Ten, the debut album that sold 12 million copies and introduced the world to Pearl Jam in 1991, will be reissued in four (4) new and expanded editions.  Pre-orders of the Super Deluxe Edition began in December, 2008, through the band’s Ten Club at www.pearljam.com <http://www.pearljam.com> , with all four editions available at retail on March 24, 2009. The reissue of Ten serves as the launch of a planned two-year catalogue re-release campaign leading up to the band’s 20th anniversary in 2011.

Each Ten package will include two versions of the album: the remastered version of the original album PLUS an accompanying remixed version done by the band’s long-time producer, Brendan O’Brien (Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC, Audioslave).  Details on specific extras for each of the four packages can be found online at www.pearljam.com <http://www.pearljam.com> .

ABOUT TEN
Pearl Jam released Ten on August 27, 1991. The album reached #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, sold over 12 million copies and became one of the cultural touchstones of the 1990s. Songs such as “Alive,” “Black,” “Even Flow” and “Jeremy” became staples of rock radio, and still make frequent appearances on the band’s ever-changing concert setlists. The album was produced by Rick Parasher. Pearl Jam’s 1991 lineup was Jeff Ament (bass), Stone Gossard (guitar), Dave Krusen (drums), Mike McCready (guitar) and Eddie Vedder (vocals).
